MAHIMA CHAUDHARY BIOGRAPHY
A former model and a bollywood actress, Mahima Chaudhry is a well known face in the world of Indian cinema. Originally named Ritu Chaudhry, Mahima was born on 13th September, 1973 in Darjeeling. She attended the Loreto Convent School and later joined Loreto College in Darjeeling. She also won the ‘Miss Darjeeling’ title, a local beauty contest. Ritu Chaudhry adopted the screen name ‘Mahima’ on the advice of ace filmmaker Subhash Ghai.Mahima Chaudhry appeared in a supporting role in Dharmesh Darshan’s romantic drama ‘Dhadkan’ alongside Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty and Shilpa Shetty. The film became a huge success in India as well as overseas. Mahima received Best Supporting Actress at Bollywood Movie Awards and was nominated at the Filmfare and Star Screen Awards. Mahima Chaudhry was later seen in a number of movies that failed to do well at the box office, however her performance in Rajkumar Santhoshi’s ‘Lajja’ and Priyadarshan’s ‘Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa Ghar’ were commended by the critics as well as audiences.Mahima Chaudhry worked as a model prior to joining the film industry. She looked simply stunning in the TV commercial of Charmis, she also appeared in Pepsi advertisement but was overshadowed by Aishwarya Rai. Mahima made her cinematic debut in Subhash Ghai’s family drama ‘Pardes’ released in 1997. Mahima portrayed the character of a village girl, Ganga with utmost genuineness and was appreciated for her performance. ‘Pardes’ became a commercial and critical success and Mahima the Best Female Debut Award at the Filmfare and Zee Cine Awards. She was also nominated for the coveted Filmfare Best Actress Award. Mahima was chosen Lux Face of The Year 1998 at Zee Cine Awards.
